Mumbai: Eat, Pray, Love & Magic Beans

We have seen Julia Roberts’s trip around three countries in the world, discovering herself through the Eat, Pray and Love philosophy. The book and the movie inspired many of us to set ourselves on this kind of trip. But it didn’t happen with us. For any possible reason the plans kept lingering in our heads. But what if I tell you that you can have those moments in a day that too on a single street in Mumbai. Unbelievable right? But some dreams do come true and they end up giving you a brand new basket of magic beans. So ladies grab your purse and walk towards The Colaba Causeway as the road has much more to offer than you imagine.

Colaba Causeway has a number of places to satisfy your test buds. But among them all, my favorite is the Leopold Cafe. Founded in 1871, this cafe offers mouthwatering food, drought beer, hot breweries and dishes like lemon tart for your sweet tooth! The cafe has a unique sitting arrangement and is always crowded. I just cant pick one dish from the menu to say its my favorite but if given an option, I would love to have a masala omelet (which they serve with Amul butter and a slice of bread) with a hot cup of filter coffee on my table. Let it be lunch, brunch, high tea or just drinking with your pals, it’s a testy ride!

Colaba is rich in old historical monuments. Many building are built by the Parsi community and the Britishers in colonial era. One of the eye catching structures is The Afghan Chuch. The church was built by the Britishers to commemorate the dead of the First Afghan War. Built in the Gothic style, there are many plaques in and around the church. The calm and soothing air of the church surely drifts you apart from the crowded honking roads.

At one end of the Colaba causeway you have the famous Regal cinema. This old fashioned cinema house offers you a visual treat from many language. usually when we decide to watch a movie, we choose a theater, then we choose a movie by reading nearly 10-15 reviews. but whats fun in that? Just going on the ticket window and buying tickets of the latest show of any random movie is more exciting. So if you have few extra hours to spare on your clock, go and watch a movie at Regal. Fall in love with the characters, the old smokey building and of course the popcorn!

But unfortunately you don’t have those 3 hrs or you just don’t feel like going for a movie. here you can give a little Cinderella touch to your fairy tale. You can easily hire a horse cart for one big round around the street. This one round takes you through the main Colaba Causeway, Marine Drive, Gate Way of India and also allows you to take a glimpse of the beautiful heritage Hotel Taj. This one romantic ride can cost you from 500-1000 bucks depending on the day, time and your bargaining skills!

Yes these rates are true but only if you are shopping in the right place in the right city. Ladies, shopping is the magic bean basket ‘Eat Pray Love’ philosophy you enjoy on the Colaba Causeway. The street is full of street vendors and shops. If you are brand crazy, you can always enter in one of the air conditioned shops on the road. But if you are on a budget and want to have the latest designs in your closet, street shopping is a must. Buy antiques, jewelry, clothes and all the sub-sub categorical stuff which comes under these tags in cheap rates. while shopping, don’t forget to bargain and never give up on your price. Start from half of the price the vendor is quoting.

Eg. If vendor is selling a cute crop top for 300, start the bargain from 100. End up buying the top in 150 by quoting ‘aapaka nahi meraa nahi, 150 kar do‘ (just find the middle way between the two prices). You are always on the win-win side in such situations.

Better than The Taj Mahal

Sorry Mr. Shahajahaan but I don’t think that Taj Mahal is the most beautiful structure of the world. I agree that I haven’t seen the whole world to make such a rude comment but I have seen the Taj Mahal and today I saw CST.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus earlier know as Victoria Terminus is nothing but a gem. The building has its own aura, an attitude and a strong will power. It never lets you down. The building has been a standing witness of many historical events. The building is home for many, it’s the place from where people earn their bread and butter. A voyage is incomplete if you don’t come here. From bloodshed to mob dance its been drenched in the tears of fear and joy. May be that’s why I was filled with super positive energy as soon as I led down my eyes on it.
When I was standing in front of this building, i just stood there. I literally froze. I don’t have any words to express what i felt in those minutes but I skipped a heartbeat. Those who haven’t seen this great architecture in person, I request you to go and just look at the structure. It’s not necessary to know the historical timeline of a heritage monument. Just stand there and feel the aura. The goosebumps on your hands and bubbles in your stomach will confirm that you fell in love! And the love with this structure has no boundaries of time for sure.

My First Short Film:

Remembering Sidney Sheldon

Drinking a glass of water or breathing fresh air, both are very natural things we do every day, so is sex. Though many of us don’t do it every day or do it after a certain age, sex has always been a very important, most discussed and gossiped subject according to my knowledge. Though we live in 21st century, sex is still considered as a taboo to talk about. We can’t discuss sex openly or with our parents or before marriage. But slowly the picture is changing. But I am not gonna write about the changes I am gonna write about the writings about sex before the changes. Writings by Sidney Sheldon. Most of Sidney Sheldon’s writings come from the late 20th century. He was known for his screen as well as fiction writings. Considered to be the favorite writer of women, Sidney Sheldon still holds the record of being seventh best selling fiction writer of all time.

Sidney Sheldon

My friend gave me a book by Sidney when I was 18. I was trying to improve my English so I wanted to read something which has simple language and easy words. I started reading the book and then I never looked back. I read all his novels within a month. It was not only about the thriller, the story, the characters but also the sex scenes which engaged me.

In Sidney’s books, women were the central character. But they were not dumb beauties. He portrayed them as beautiful, smart, determined, enthusiastic, optimistic, intelligent, survivor, hopeful, feminine,  logical, practical (though sometimes they choose their heart instead of their head) and of course extremely sexy.  These women were path breaking as they were totally different from the stereo typed women portrayed by many writers then and now.

The women and their lovers or the men with whom Sidney portrayed the sex scenes were very easy to imagine. As I said earlier, his words were very easy and written in such a way that one will relate to it easily. His books and sex scenes are like drugs. You want to read more and more. If you are finished reading, you will go back and read again and enjoy more. The scenes he wrote never felt greasy or sweaty or boring. Many times the orgasms women got through reading these scenes were more pleasing than actual sex. It paved a way for women who never had sex or never had good sex. Even a line on kissing, gives you goose bumps.

Gently he took her in his arms, and they kissed.

(The Other Side of Midnight)

The ultimate guilty pleasure, rush of emotions flowing from your veins, the sweet blush on hot cheek bones, wrinkles on the bed spread made by the legs were nothing but the results of reading Sidney Sheldon. There is nothing new or different in sex. It’s all about how badly you want it, how you make your partner feel while having sex or performing the foreplay, do you close your eyes while kissing or not, do you feel the pleasant pleasure of satisfaction instead of sweat on your bodies. Sidney’s sex scenes gave answers to all these questions. He didn’t write something different or unusual, he wrote what was right. You don’t need a partner to feel the tingling down there while you read his scenes but you surely feel the need of one after reading his scenes.

the other side of midnight

She looked at him, puzzled, and opened her mouth ask him what he meant, but he put his lips on hers and his hands began to move down her body, gently exploring, and she forgot everything except what was to her, her whole consciousness concern-on one part of her body, feeling him try to enter hard and pulsing, forcing, an instant of sharp, expected pain, then sliding in, moving faster and fast-an alien body in her body, plunging deep inside a, moving with a rhythm that grew more and more attic, and he said, “Are you ready?” She was not sure what she was supposed to be ready for, but she  said, “Yes,” and suddenly he cried, “Oh, Cathy!” and made one last sporadic thrust and lay still on top of her. And it was all over, and he was saying “Was it wonderful for you?” and she said, “Yes, it was wonderful,” and he said, “It gets better as it goes along,” and she was filled with joy that she was able to bring him this; happiness, and she tried not to worry about what a disappointment  it had been.

(The Other Side of Midnight)

It’s never a disappointment. Many people imagine sex or as they call it ‘making love’ with candles and flowers around, with a goodie goodie romantic satire. But in reality it’s more fierce and aggressive. One can feel this aggression in Sidney’s writings. Even the words like organs, virgina come very smoothly in his writings. They don’t feel overrated or dark.

His organ began to grow hard in her hand.

(The Other Side of Midnight)

I find reading Sidney’s sex scenes much better than watching porn. You can imagine yourself easily, put yourself with your crush, stop whenever you feel like and start again when you get the orgasms. You don’t have to watch greasy hairy men having sex with women will XXX sized boobs and fake orgasms. The most natural thing comes in the most natural way.

Many times Sidney goes beyond sex. The love, romance and cuddling after sex is similar in many ways with your real life.

She lay in his arms, letting the sound of his voice wash over her, comforting her, and she thought This is what is important, being together as two human beings, loving and sharing each other.

(The Other Side of Midnight)

As I mentioned earlier, there is nothing new or different in sex. It’s all about your chemistry with your partner. That’s why Sidney Sheldon is never outdated. He has been popular since 4 decades and will be popular as long as the readers and orgasms will be alive.
