Hyderabadi Rasoi

Last month I was enjoying with my aunt’s family in Hyderabad. Whole day I was engulfed in playing with my cousins. Only the strong aroma of special Hyderabadi cuisine was able to distract our minds! My aunt prepared various new dishes at home and many times we enjoyed the food in hotels.

Before coming to Hyderabad my friends gave me lists of shopping hubs, parks, hotels and tourist spots of the city. There were lots of suggestions. But there was one thing common on those lists, standing on number one and that is HYDERABADI BIRYANI!! It was very obvious because whenever one takes the name of the city, the hot spicy and mouthwatering Biryani covers the clouds!

Hyderabadi Biryani…

The Dum method is used to make the Hyderabadi Biryani. In this method the meat and rice are cooked in an air tight pot on very low flame so that the rice gets the flavor and aroma of the meat. The Biryani tastes marvelous when it’s served with Raita (yogurt dish) or Mirchi ka Salan.

The Paradise hotel is very famous for its Chicken Biryani.  The hotel serves from 1953. You can also taste Indian, Chinese, continental and traditional Hyderabadi food at the joint. The hotel is best of its kind and also affordable. The Paradise is in three areas of the city- Secunderabad, Hi-Tech City and Masab Tank.

Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaaye…

The people of the city are really very sweet because they love sweet food. They enjoy sweet not only in meals but also for breakfasts. And let me tell you, these sweet dishes are loaded with dry fruits!

After having the Hyderabadi Dum Biryani you can please tour tongue by tasting delicious sweet dishes like Khubani Ka Meetha and Halim. And as I told you earlier both dishes are loaded with dry fruits.

Khubani Ka Meetha is made of dried apricots. First the apricots are soaked in water and later boiled in the same liquid. The seed is removed from the fruit and served with fresh cream or vanilla ice-cream. Also a pinch of cardamom powder perfects the dish.

Halim is also very famous sweet dish having a lot of dry fruits in it. Halim is a special Ramjaan dish but Pista House offers you this dish in all seasons. Situated in old city, Pista House exports the Halim in various countries.

The list sweet dishes continue with Double Ka Meetha. Along with typical south Indian Idli-Dosa breakfast Double Ka Meetha is one of the famous dishes of breakfast menu. Double Ka Meetha is also known as sister of Halim because again the dish is showered with dry fruits. To prepare the dish, the bread is fried in pure ghee and later soaked in milk. The sugar is added later and the garnishing of dry fruits pleases your eyes as well.

Chalte-Chalte Khana Hai…

Street Food is like heartbeat for Indian food lovers and so for Hyderabadi people. Nihari, Paya and Mirachi Pakoda are the best street food items I have ever tested. Hanuman Tekdi area is famous for all types of street food. There you can also get the famous south Indian dishes like Idli and Dosa.

When we are talking about south Indian food, here in Hyderabad how can one leave without testing the Button Idli? Don’t worry this Idli is not made of button crush. They are in small shapes like buttons that’s why it’s famous as Button Idli. You can also taste theButton Vada in the same shape. Kya Piyoge…

Along with food beverages served in the city are really very refreshing. Tea and coffee are easy drinks to get in any hotel or restaurant. You can get Lemon Soda and Sugar Cane Juice in nearly every chowk of the city. The Lemon Soda keeps your appetite good and Sugar Cane juice gives you energy to roam around and enjoy your trip!

Disha’s Tip Of The Day


After so much of food a real food lover will definitely ask for Paan. The cherry is added on the cake by the soft, sweet and melting Meetha Paan offered by Laddoo Paanwala at Kudabiguda. It’s a small shop of Paan but very famous and always crowded.
